Some Photos Not Showing On IE8

Reported by: dgBoldt Owned by: sebastian
Priority: minor Milestone: 2.4
Component: unspecified Version: 2.0
Keywords: IE8, Photos, photo, display Cc:

In IE8, on our server, on our intranet, with the fully qualified domain, some photos do not show up. Works on Firefox and other web browsers besides IE8 or IE7.

I could not find a correlation of the ones that are showing up and the ones that are not. Checked the following with the photos:

  • file names
  • special characters
  • files size
  • dimensions
  • folder names

Also check out the settings within IE8

  • When through all the
    • security options
    • privacy settings
    • advance settings
    • encoding settings
  • Added site to trusted sites
  • Rest all settings back to default

Here is a link to our test gallery on the externally hosted server:

I found a correlation of the photos that are not showing. The JPG's that aren't showing in IE8 are in CMYK, not RGB. So, it's an IE8 and IE7 issue not the gallery.

I'm sorry for this late reply but I'm currently bussy and I could not help as fast as I whish.

This issue is very interessting!

I added some line to the thumbnail module (phpThumb) to force the colorspace to be RGB. You can apply the patch with

patch -p1 < truecolor.thumbs.patch

in the app directory (where app_controller.php file is located) or you add folloging lines to vendors/phpthumb/phpthumb.class.php, line 1319 above line 'if (!is_null($this->dpi) && $this->ImageMagickSwitchAvailable?('density')) {':

Set output format to true color
if ($this->ImageMagickSwitchAvailable?('colorspace')) {

$commandLine .= ' -colorspace RGB';

if ($this->ImageMagickSwitchAvailable?('type')) {

$commandLine .= ' -type TrueColor?';

I couldn't test if this patch will help to solve the IE8 CMYK problem but in theory it should :-) If it does I will commit this line to public so please report your experience.

To enforce the recalculation of all the previews you should delete all preview files in app/users/*/cache directory.

Thanks for the reply and patch suggestion. Sadly it did not work...
